The method used to estimate pickup truck fuel economy ratings changed in 2008, but it still doesn't reflect the actual mileage you'll get when you drive your truck -- and never will, since vehicles aren't tested in the real world and because everyone's driving habits differ. But comparing ratings within a class gives you a good idea which vehicles in that category performed best. With the cost of gas where it is, fuel economy is an important feature to consider when it's time to buy a pickup truck.

Like the Silverado Hybrid, GMC's hybrid Sierra pickup trucks have significantly higher fuel economy ratings than non-hybrid Sierras.
12. 2010 Suzuki Equator Trucks
The Equator lineup includes 4-cylinder, 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder trucks in 2WD and 4WD configurations, resulting in a fairly wide spread in its fuel economy ratings.

As you'd expect, 4-cylinder Tundra pickup trucks have pretty good fuel economy ratings. The 6-cylinders vary based on engine size and transmission type, but most can be expected to obtain respectable mileage.
14. 2010 Toyota Tundra Trucks
Big truck, fairly low gas mileage -- Tundra's EPA ratings are about what you'd expect for a full size pickup. Tundra is available as an 8-cylinder flex fuel truck (at 10/13, the lowest fuel economy rating of the lineup).
15. 2009 Chevy Avalanche Trucks
Avalanche's fuel mileage estimates are similar to the estimates for typical full size pickup trucks.
16. 2009 Chevy Colorado Pickup Trucks
The Colorado's EPA ratings are pretty steady across the board, no matter whether you choose a 4-cylinder or 5-cylinder truck with or without 4WD. Ratings aren't available yet for the new V-8 Colorado truck.
17. 2009 Chevy Silverado Hybrid Truck
The 2009 Silverado hybrid truck is available as a Crew Cab in either a 2WD or 4WD configuration. Compare it to a conventional Silverado and you'll see about a 40-percent gain in city fuel economy and a 25-percent gain overall. The truck's cruising range 500+ miles.
18. 2009 Dodge Dakota Pickup Trucks
Dodge Dakota doesn't offer stellar fuel economy ratings, but keep in mind there are no 4-cylinder trucks in the lineup as there are for other smaller trucks. A flex fuel capable pickup is available in either a 2WD or 4WD configuration.19. 2009 Dodge Ram Pickup Trucks
The Ram's fuel economy ratings are somewhat lower than its competition, partly because Dodge only offers a 5-speed automatic transmission. Ford, Chevy and Toyota are among the manufacturers who have a 6-speed option.
20. 2009 Ford F-150 Pickup Trucks
Ford is one of the auto manufacturers offering a more fuel-friendly version of an existing truck. Called the SFE, it picks up 1 mpg on the highway. Other F-150 trucks range upwards from 14 city / 18 highway.
