Some trucks let you forget that they're trucks. The F-150 never does. It's big, and it drives big. On the plus side, the high driving perch gives you a great view of the road, and a commanding sense of power over surrounding traffic. The power rack-and-pinion steering is direct, with good on-center feel. While the F-150 will never be described as nimble, it is composed on the road, and carries its 5281 lb curb weight well, with manageable body roll. 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS have good feel, and haul the truck down from speed with predictable results.

On the minus side, maneuvering the F-150 in tight situations is a bear. With a 45' turning radius and 138.5" wheelbase, getting into that parking space requires just the right angle and some careful calculation. Forget about slipping into those "compact" spaces at the mall. Oh, and check the headroom at the parking garage -- at 73.5", the F-150 will test your nerves and make some noise with its antenna.

The F-150's 5.4 liter V8, which cranks out 300 hp and 365 lb ft of torque, manages to feel just adequate through the four-speed automatic transmission. Expect 14 mpg city/19 mpg highway, according to EPA estimates, good for up to 570 miles of cruising with the F-150's 30 gallon fuel tank.
