The original LR3 is equipped with a 4.4-liter 300hp V8 engine. The new version is a 4.0-liter V6 that can tow up to 7,700 pounds. Fuel mileage is estimated at 14 city, 19 highway (the V8 is rated at 14/18).
The V6 LR3's 4WD capabilities remain the same as the V8's, with Land Rover's Terrain Response system and other important driving features. The V6 LR3 is equipped with the same automatic transmission as the V8.
The interior trim levels weren't clear in Land Rover's initial press release about the new vehicle, but the automaker did release details about features that will be available with an "SE" upgrade.
- Leather trimmed seating surfaces, shift knob, and front folding armrests
- Upgraded radio and CD changer with 9 speakers and remote audio controls on the steering wheel
- Power tilt and slide front sunroof with a fixed roof over the second and third rows
- Second row auxiliary audio port
- "SE" Badge at rear tailgate
V6 LR3 Pricing
The 2005 and 2006 model year V6 units will have a base MSRP of $38,950. Tack on an extra $3,000 for the optional premium package. Pricing for the V8 LR3 starts at $44,995 for the SE. The HSE is priced at $49,995.
The V6 LR3 won't save owners much on fuel costs, but its lower price is an incentive that will probably bring more owners into the Land Rover family.
