Incentives Help Take the Edge Off of Truck Prices

Tuesday June 10, 2008
Incentive programs and cash back bonuses are changing rapidly as automakers try to lighten their truck inventories. If you need a pickup, this summer could be a good time to buy one.

  • General Motors upped its incentive program this week by offering current GM vehicle owners (of 1999 models forward) hefty incentives when they buy a new GM truck or SUV. The owner loyalty incentives are over and above money-back deals that are already in place.
  • Dodge truck fans should keep an eye out for price cuts, because Chrysler LLC President Jim Press recently told reporters that incentives for pickups and SUVs are "inevitable." Chrysler's Let's Refuel America program is still in place until early July.
  • Ford says it isn't backing away from the F-150, but with truck sales down over 30-percent in May, a trend that's expected to continue, we'll no doubt see less focus on it. Ford is offering its employee pricing to everyone through the end of June, and don't be too surprised if the program continues, at least until 2008 models are out of the way.
