Hyundai Truck Project Shot Down
Wednesday May 14, 2008
Hyundai has decided not to move forward with the pickup truck it planned to manufacture at the new Kia plant in Georgia, saying that rising oil prices and the declining truck market forced the decision. They claim that the truck hasn't been shelved forever, that it may be built in the future, but it sounds like the plant will be configured to produce a small car instead. It's not a good time for new players to enter the truck market unless they're prepared to give us the features and capabilities we need in a package that uses less fuel, and that might not even help until the huge number of people who buy work trucks are in a position to make a new purchase.
