Year and make of my favorite pickup truck.
1972 Dodge 3/4 Ton Standard Cab Truck
How old were you when you first owned the truck?
33
How long did you own the truck?
I had the truck for 12 years and it was four years old when I received it.
Was it your first truck?
yes
Some of the truck's features:
360 V8 Automatic Trans. Posi rear, two gas tanks with 1 in the cab behind the seat with 1 gas fill port. This truck was really heavy duty. I had Reading boxes mounted on the truck and welding equipment in the bed. The truck also had a rack for hauling ladders and pipe etc. This truck was driven every day for 16 years before I sold it for more than than it cost new. This was a carburated vehicle so it inherited some of Chrysler's problems, it did not like to start sometimes on a wet day. I pulled trailers with no problem, including a large travel trailer to Florida many times. When sold it had 200,000 miles.
Here's what made the truck special.
see above..It ran good, lived up to expectations, and was truly heavy duty.. It went to a friend of mine who drove it for 5 more years, and another 100,000 miles before the engine needed major work. The truck was well maintained for all of those miles.
I have been driving trucks ever since. I had two GMC trucks and now drive a Chevy Silverado 2500HD. The Chevy is a can do it all Truck. I have had it 4 years and it has never let me down. When I hit the road in this big boy I feel very safe.
Advice
- If you P.M. your vehicle on a regular schedule it will last a long Time. If you flow the Engine, (full flow intake, dual exhaust) you can stress relieve the motor, it won't have to work as hard.
- Change the oil every 3K mi with a new filter, using good oil.
- Change the tranny oil every 50K mi. and clean the filter.
- Lubricate the grease fittings every 6 mo.
- Keep the tires inflated at the proper pressure (safety issue)
- Do not wait for things to fail, like hoses and belts and tires. Replace them before they let you down.
- Inspect your vehicle yourself on a regular basis o/s and i/s for wear.
