HUMMER to Introduce Two New Vehicles in 2005

Watch for the HUMMER H3 and HUMMER H1 Alpha

By Dale Wickell, About.com

HUMMER plans to introduce the new midsize H3 and an off-road performance series called Alpha in early 2005.

Midsize H3

The 2006 HUMMER H3, a midsize SUV, should arrive in dealer showrooms during the first half of 2005. We'll get a first look at it in fourth quarter of 2004, but here's a preview:

  • HUMMER says it will give the H3 excellent offroad capability, but at the same time offer owners more comfort and better fuel economy.

  • The H3 will feature the 3.5L Vortec 3500 Inline 5-cylinder engine with a dual overhead cam and variable valve timing.

  • You'll have a choice of manual or automatic transmission.

  • The H3 will have an electronically controlled four-wheel drive system with a fully locking rear differential, traction control, underbody shielding and GM's StabiliTrak vehicle stability enhancement system.

H1 Alpha

HUMMER's new performance series starts with the original H1. The automaker is offering just a few details:

  • The 2006 H1 Alpha will launch in early 2005.

  • It will feature GM's 6.6L Duramax Turbo Diesel and an Allison 1000 transmission.

  • The Duramax engine will give the vehicle more power than the H1, improved emissions, and a fuel economy gain.
