Hummer HX Concept Vehicle

Hummer HX Concept at the 2008 North American International Auto Show

From Dale Wickell, About.com

Here's a more interesting HUMMER than we've seen for awhile. The HX is a concept with a 103" wheelbase -- more compact than your typical HUMMER. It's built for on- or off-road use, with a body that can be converted for closed or open-air driving by popping removable panels on and off. HUMMER demonstrated the panel changes while the HX sat on the show floor in Detroit -- it looked like a pretty easy task. The concept's instrumentation can also be configured for either highway or off-road driving.

The HX has full-time 4WD with front and rear locking differentials, and it's powered by a 3.6L V-6 E85 FlexFuel engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. I can see something similar to this concept going to production if there's enough interest, toned down of course. The vehicle's ability to easily convert from street to off-road use should have some appeal with HUMMER enthusiasts.
