ASC Custom Cars at the 2006 North American International Auto Show
Cars that Let the Light Shine In

From Dale Wickell, About.com

American Specialty Cars, or ASC, showed off some of its products at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.

The InfiniVu™ Fabric system has folding fabric panels that accordian either forward or backward over a huge roof opening to give a vehicle an almost convertible-like ride.

InfiniVu™ Glass and InfiniVu™ are multi-part panels made with GE Lexan® GLX Resin. They are used to create huge overhead sunroofs that can be opened in multiple positions. Roof pillars remain, so side airbags aren't sacrificed. ASC says that roof-crush characteristics are not much different than in the original vehicles.

ASC partners with manufacturers to create custom versions of vehicles in smaller quantities than the automakers could realistically produce on a production line. There was talk at Detroit that ASC products will be used in a production vehicle for 2008, but they aren't saying which automaker they are working with.
