Growing up in the midwestern US during the 1960's, the pickup trucks I remember were either farm trucks or trucks used to get people to and from work. They were mostly 2-wheel drive vehicles with six-cylinder or small V8 engines and 3-speed transmissions. Typical amenities included metal door panels, vinyl bench seats, an optional heater, hand-crank windows, and an AM radio. Remember those days?
Some manufacturers still build those basic trucks, but just try to find one on a dealer's lot. Nearly everything in-stock has V6 or V8 Fuel Injected power, an automatic transmission, air conditioning, nice cloth or leather seats, a minimum of an AM-FM radio system, full power, and cruise control--all the extras available in a car.
