Update: October, 2007: Some of the information in this article is outdated. The Sport Trac Adrenalin was not released in 2007, but is a go for Ford's 2008 model year.

Adrenalin Enters the SVT Lineup

Ford will increase its SVT lineup in 2007 with the addition of the Sport Trac Adrenalin, a sport utility truck that the automaker says delivers true performance with four-passenger seating.

The Sport Trac Adrenalin is a blend of the Ford SVT Lightning truck and the Explorer Sport Trac. It will feature optional all wheel drive, a six-speed automatic transmission and Ford's AdvanceTrac with roll stability.

All Wheel Drive Option

Jay O'Connell, SVT chief vehicle engineer, talked to the press about the AWD feature:

"In addition to providing sure footing on slick surfaces, there's a performance advantage to all-wheel drive. A longstanding problem with performance trucks was their inability to 'hook up' from a standing start without excessive wheelspin. This AWD system puts power down through all four tires, helping Adrenalin launch with impressive authority."

So, if you think that a sport truck must be rear wheel drive, think again. The Adrenalin's AWD system uses a 60/40 torque split to put more force to the rear wheels on hard acceleration and as needed, while the AWD system reduces wheelspin and improves cornering.

The system sounds like it offers the best of both worlds, performance and handling.
