Nissan Frontier Engines
Two engines are available on the Frontier truck:
- A 4.0L V6 that produces 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque -- based on the same engine used in the 350Z and other Nissan cars.
Nissan made the engine suitable for a truck by altering its computer programming.
- A 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that puts out 152 hp and 171 lb-ft torque is available on the base model 4x2 Frontier King Cab.
Nissan Frontier Transmissions
- The V6 engine can be paired with a 5-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission.
- The 4-cylinder truck is available with a 5-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission.
Frontier Truck 4WD System
- Four-wheel drive is only available on V-6 Frontier trucks. It's a shift on the fly system, meaning you can change between 2WD and 4HI while moving.
- An optional advanced off-road traction system is available and includes a 4-wheel limited slip system to give better traction on difficult surfaces.
- Hill Descent is optional and can be activated when the transfer case is in 4HI or 4LO. It works in both forward and reversse and can be activated at speeds ranging up to 15mph in 4LO and and 21mph in 4HI.
- Hill Start Assist keeps the truck from rolling backwards for up to 2 seconds while moving a foot between the brake and accelerator. It is available on 4x4 trucks.
Nissan Frontier Towing Capabilities
The V6 Frontier truck can tow a maximum of 6,500 pounds.
