In the Driver’s Seat of the 2006 Toyota RAV4

Every time I climb into a Toyota – any Toyota - I can’t help thinking it was custom made for somebody of my proportions. I find Toyotas to be just that comfortable. Some cars I test can take a couple of hours getting used to. Not so a Toyota. They seem almost to define the term, "user-friendly."

The important thing about this 3rd generation RAV4 is its massive interior, especially as compared with the last model. While 2nd generation RAV4 didn't by any stretch feel cramped, really long legged people might not have enjoyed extended trips in its rear seats. Such is not the case with this new one. Rear space (legroom especially) is limo-like. With the front seat set comfortably for my 42 regular frame, there was at least 18" of space between the rear seat cushion and the front seat back. Which is extraordinary. Only cars like the Mazda5 and the new B-Class come close, and these two are more accurately classified as "crossovers" - in other words more minivan than SUV.

A tight 3rd row of seating suitable for children is also available.

Everyone will appreciate the RAV4's high seating positions. Visibility is almost as good from the (2nd row) rear seats as from the driver's.
