Although compact on the outside, it has immense useable interior space; probably more than many of the big momma SUVs. The XT is the hotrod Forester. Its new turbocharged Boxer 4-cylinder engine produces supercar numbers. Superb symmetrical full time AWD keeps the beefy tires on the tarmac. The XT is a WRX without the wing. But (sob!) it still has the boy racer air scoop. Gas mileage: 19/25 for the five-speed manual transmission Forester, 21/26 for the automatic transmission. MSRP: $27,895 for the five-speed manual transmission and $28,695 for the automatic transmission. Warranty: 3/36,000.
