On the Road in the Lincoln Mark LT
Like the F-150, the Mark LT is quite a behemoth. Make no mistake, this is a full-sized pickup truck. Do yourself a favor, Ted, and get the $245 reverse sensing system. No matter how many luxury features you tack on, it's still body-on-frame with a solid live rear axle with leaf springs. The front suspension is double-wishbone with coil-over shocks and a stabilizer bar. The ride is good -- for a truck -- but you'll still get some bouncing in the rear on the highway, especially over expansion joints and rough roads. Now, Ted, you and I both love power. We've talked about this at the ranch. Oddly, the Mark LT is available with only one engine choice: a 5.4 liter V8 that cranks out 300 hp and 365 lb ft of torque. I was hoping for more maybe that 6.8 liter V10 from the F-250 as an option? but I guess the 5.4 does the job. And where's the five-speed automatic? The Mark LT comes with a four-speed, with no option for an upgrade. With a healthy 8900 lb towing capacity, another gear would be a welcome addition.
Not that you care, Ted, but the EPA rates the Mark LT to get 14 mpg city/18 mpg highway. With its 30 gallon fuel tank, you might be able to go all the way from one end of the ranch to the other without refueling almost 540 miles.
