The base model Ridgeline truck we tested had an unmistakeable air of no-nonsense functionality. The dash and doors are covered in a dark rubber-like material; the floors with dark rubber mats. The dash is very practical. Besides the large (and deep) tray over the glove box stretching some 18 inches, the dash itself is just very slightly sloped with lots of other places to set things (like sunglasses) for a minute.

The two front doors each have one of handiest devices I've seen lately -- a grab handle, which allows you to close the fully extended door without first hanging out of the vehicle to do so. I have a fairly normal 35-inch sleeve but I find closing the door can be an uncomfortable stretch even with the 2006 Lexus GS 430 I'm driving this week. And speaking of handy devices, the sliding back window is power operated.

The Ridgeline's rear seats split 70/30 then fold up out of the way. I found the ride back there to be surprisingly comfortable. There is quite a bit of legroom, good padding on the cushions and seatbacks and good visibility. Three adults can be accommodated in a pinch. Honda also claims a bicycle will fit. Don't know about that but groceries and golf clubs certainly will.
