First Glance at the 2006 F-150 King Ranch Truck
Established in 1853, Texas' King Ranch is famous for its saddle shop, leather work and distinctive "Running W" brand. The King Ranch edition of the F-150 is festooned with at least seven Running W's on its exterior, advertising its pedigree. The King Ranch package includes a set of Arizona Beige running boards, a very useful wide set that makes the F-150 look closer to the ground. My test vehicle wore a sharp two-tone Dark Copper and Arizona Beige paint job. Paint quality, fit and finish were all excellent. The F-150 is a big vehicle, make no mistake about it. The previous generation of F-150 made some attempts to disguise its size, but the current (2004 -- present) generation celebrates size and truck lineage. Starting at the grille, which is very similar to the F-250 and F-350 nosepiece, the F-150 looks like a truck. The big front rises to meet the top of the hood, presenting a big fascia that will fill any ordinary car's rear view mirror.
The SuperCrew F-150 has four full-sized doors, and a well-proportioned cabin. The short bed balances the vehicle's look reasonably well, though the long bed would be in better harmony. High arched wheel wells emphasize the F-150's muscularity. The rear of the truck is simple and relatively unadorned.
