EPA Rating: 24 City / 29 Highway

We don't hear as much talk about the traditional Ford Escape now that the hybrid version is out there, but the original version gets good gas mileage for a small SUV.

The 2005 Escape is larger overall and roomier than previous models. It isn't a plush sport utility vehicle, but its under $20K price tag is easy to take.

Here's how the other Escape models fared in the EPA tests:

Other FWD Models

  • 2.3L 4-Cylinder, Automatic: 22/25

  • 3.0L 6-Cylinder, Automatic, 20/25
4WD Escapes

  • 2.3L 4-Cylinder, Automatic: 19/22, Manual: 22/26

  • 3.0L 6-Cyliner, Automatic: 18/22

Take an Escort out for a test drive to help you decide if it's right for you.
