The mid-size Highlander SUV is a top-seller for Toyota. It's always a vehicle to consider if you want the functionality of a sport utility vehicle, but the ride of a car.

A third row seating option is new for 2005. It's a handy addition if you occasionally need a few more seats, especially for kids, but even though there's a sliding second row seat, getting out of the third row is somewhat awkward for adults.

New standard features for 2005:

  • Roof rails with crossbars
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Rear tonneau cover
  • Star Safety System

The Star Safety System includes Vehicle Stability Control and traction control, an anti-lock brake system with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist.

Two Engine Choices

  • Standard 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, 160 hp
  • Optional 3.3-liter V6, 230 hp
  • Choose front-wheel drive or full-time 4WD with either engine

Towing Capabilities

  • Four-cylinder Highlanders can tow 1,500 pounds, or up to 3,000 pounds if you buy the towing prep package
  • V6 Highlanders can tow 2,000 pounds, or up to 3,500 with the towing prep package

    The prep package includes an upgraded radiator, transmission oil cooler, 130-amp alternator, and trailer pre-wiring.
