2005 Nissan Titan 4X4 SE Pickup Truck Test Drive

First Glance at the Nissan Titan Truck

The Titan's styling is masculine, sharp-edged and strong. Big rectangular headlights dominate the front corners, flanking polished chrome bars and a big Nissan logo. In the middle of the body-colored bumper is a big intake for radiator cooling, an opening that's just begging for a billet aluminum insert or other decorative piece. Big 18" alloy wheels complete the look. The Titan's styling states clearly that this truck is no toy. It is assertive and bold without being outrageous. As always, Nissan's fit and finish is top notch.

I love the utility of a crew cab, but I'm always thrown by the odd proportions of the crew cab/short bed combination. The Titan's bed is just over 67 inches long, about 30% of the vehicle's total length. A 67 inch bed can be quite useful for many loads. You may never need more space. But if you want to carry a sheet of 4'x 8' plywood, you're going to have to leave the tailgate down or load at an angle. A $280 accessory bed extender seems like an essential option. The SE Utility Bed Package is also useful, with factory applied spray-in bedliner and a nifty cast metal adjustable tie down system, though at $950 for the package you might want to look to the aftermarket for bargains on a piece by piece basis.
