The FX45 comes with a list of convenience features long enough to make a luxury car owner envious. Believe me, this baby is loaded. However I'm one who believes the controls of an automobile should be kept simple, and the FX45 is anything but. What's more, I suspect the FX35, with its award-winning V-6, may be the better buy. It's not short of performance and will deliver considerably fuel mileage. Although the V-8's a beauty it's a thirsty one.

For all its bulk the FX45 offers no more rear seat room than your average sedan and the luggage area is no bigger than your average hatchback. So, as I wondered earlier, what's the point? Ah, but I'm no longer upwardly mobile. In fact, at my age I'm happy to be mobile at all. Toys? I've got a digital TV, DVD player, and surround sound system with three remotes totaling 263 buttons and it's all I can do to turn the darn thing on. Obviously I'm not Infiniti's target market.

That doesn't mean I didn't get my kicks driving the FX45 or that I didn't admire the technology. It was fun (honest!) and, with reservations, I might recommend it to a guy who fits the demographics. Yet, at the end of the week, I was still referring to it as the Monster from Mars. With affection, of course.
