In the FX45 Driver's Seat

2005 Infiniti FX45

It was not an auspicious beginning. Of three buttons on the side of the seat only one responded. But I could reach the pedals and steering wheel so, eager to beat Toronto's rush-hour traffic I charged onto the expressway. The GPS map would be helpful in finding my B&B, if only I could get it to switch from birds-eye view to map view and if the beeping sound that occasionally startled me would quit, I could concentrate on persuading the adjusters to adjust.

Meanwhile I noted that the muted interior is handsome, the heated seats supportive. Air flowed over an open sunroof with no buffeting. Door bins the size of briefcases held plenty of papers. A mass of controls, buttons, and switches covered much of the dash, steering wheel, and overhead panel. If I'd had a second week with the FX45 I'd have figured them out but "intuitive" is not an adjective that applies here. Eventually I discovered four innocuous switches at the rear of the console with which to adjust the seat; later I learned how to acquire the GPS' map view, though the map itself is difficult to read. And by the time I arrived at the B&B it became obvious the beeper was reminding me not to wander from my lane. Luxurious interior, too many distractions.
