Ford's Explorer Sport Trac offers many of the interior features of its popular Explorer SUV line, but with a bonus. The Sport Trac has an open truck bed for hauling cargo. Here's an overview of what's available for 2004.

New Sport Trac Features for 2004

  • Four vehicle trims: XLS, XLT, XLT Premium and Adrenalin.
  • Tweaked interior with a revised instrument cluster.
  • XLT standard equipment includes power mirrors, remote keyless entry, tilt steering wheel, speed control, woven floor mats.
  • XLT Premium adds a new monochromatic look that includes color-keyed bumpers, fascia, moldings and step bars
  • The Adrenalin premium audio system is upgraded for 2004
  • FFV Engine capability allows engine to operate on traditional gasoline or ethanol 85 blended fuel
  • New exterior colors: Competition Orange Clearcoat, Pueblo Gold Clearcoat Metallic, Dark Blue Pearl Clearcoat Metallic

Cargo Capabilities

  • 29.6 cubic feet of cargo space in the standard cargo bed, which measures 50 inches long and 19.7 inches deep.

Seating

Three seating packages are available:

  • Cloth low-back front bucket seats and a rear 60/40-split bench seat with four-way adjustable head restraints are standard on all Explorer Sport Trac models.

  • Cloth bucket seats with driver-side six-way power seat adjustment, recline function and a four-way manually adjustable head restraint are optional on XLT Premium.

  • Leather-trimmed bucket seats are available on XLT Premium and Adrenalin models. They are heated and have an additional power lumbar adjustment feature. The leather-trimmed seats are two-toned, with dark bolster and light insert.

More Interior

The standard floor console has two large front cup holders, an open front storage area, convenience clip, two pop-out rear cup holders and a hinged armrest that allows access to a removable soft pack storage bag with adjustable shoulder strap.

A deluxe console is available on XLT Premium models. It features a coin holder, front power point and flow-through rear heater/air conditioning ducts.

Audio

  • Explorer Sport Trac comes standard with an AM/FM/CD stereo.

  • XLT and XLT Premium have two optional audio systems: an 80-watt dual media sound system featuring AM/FM/CD and cassette player, or a Pioneer 285-watt audio system that features an in-dash six-disc CD stereo.

  • The Adrenalin premium audio system pumps out 510 watts of Pioneer power. The stereo system features nine speakers, including a subwoofer, and a six-disc in-dash CD player with MP3 capability.

Moonroof

  • A power moonroof is optional on XLT Premium and Adrenalin models.

Powertrain

  • Explorer Sport Trac is powered by a 4.0-liter single-overhead-cam V-6, with a five-speed automatic overdrive transmission.

  • Sport Trac is available in 2WD or 4WD.

  • The 2004 Explorer Sport Trac offers standard flexible-fuel capability.

Towing

    A properly equipped Sport Trac has a 5,300-pound maximum towing capacity.

Safety

  • Optional Safety Canopy side curtain air bag system for enhanced passenger protection.

  • Four-wheel-disc ABS is standard on Explorer Sport Trac.

  • Ford's BeltMinder system reminds the driver to buckle up.

  • Child safety seat tether anchors are provided in rear seating positions. Rear doors have child safety locks.

Major Equipment and Options

XLS: 4.0L SOHC V-6 engine; five-speed automatic transmission, AM/FM/CD stereo, 16-inch 5-spoke cast aluminum wheels, power windows and locks, intermittent wipers, two-tone cloth front bucket seats and split rear bench seat.

XLT adds to XLS: leather-wrapped steering wheel; remote keyless entry with keypad, speed control/tilt steering wheel, woven floormats and black dual fold-away power exterior mirrors.

XLT Premium adds to XLT: a monochromatic exterior that includes color-keyed bumpers, fascia, moldings and step bars and the Comfort Group and Premium Sport Group.

Adrenalin features: a 510-watt Pioneer audio system, color-keyed bumpers, fascia and moldings, chrome wheels, chrome step bars and unique badging.

Comfort Group, optional on XLT and standard on XLT Premium, includes six-way power driver seat, driver power lumbar support, passenger manual two-way seat adjustor, premium floor console, overhead console with outside temperature and compass, autolamp and auto-dimming mirror.

Premium Sport Group, optional on XLT and standard on XLT Premium, includes bright cast aluminum wheels with conventional spare, fog lamps, front tow hooks (4x4 only), all-terrain tires, side step bars and 4.10 rear axle ratio.
