New Falcon Ute Christened

By Dale Wickell, About.com

Falcon RTV - Falcon UteFord Media
The newest member of Ford Australia's light commercial family has a name. The new ute will be called an RTV--short for Rugged Terrain Vehicle.

The name was chosen from thousands of entries in Ford's 'Win a Truckload of Tools' competition. The winner was Maurice Clarke, who won $10,000 worth of DeWalt power tools for his entry.

Clarke told Ford: "I saw the ute at the Melbourne Motor Show and thought it looked sensational. Rugged was the first word that came to my mind when I saw it, so I just worked on that concept."

Ford decided that the name was a perfect match with the new Falcon ute. The vehicle will be available later this year.

A few RTV features:

  • One-ton payload capacity
  • A suspension kit that puts the vehicle 80mm (3.2 in.) higher than standard
  • A wheel track that's 50mm (2 in.) wider than standard
  • A differential locking system
  • Extra underbody protection for off-road capabilities

Visit Ford Australia's Web site for more information about the RTV Falcon.
