An Ohio Chevy dealer placed a winning bid of $137,850 to take delivery of Chevy's second-built Signature Series SSR, the lowest VIN number of that model to be sold to the public.

Bob McDorman competed with ninety-six other bidders for the truck, and his final bids were submitted just a few minutes before the end of the eBay auction.

General Motors announced in May 2002 that it would donate the second SSR built to the SAE Foundation, which works to promote and nurture students' interests in science and technology. Shortly afterwards, SAE announced plans to auction the vehicle, with proceeds used to provide funding for the Heinz C. Prechter Award for Automotive Excellence. The award was created in memory of Prechter, founder of ASC Incorporated, a specialty vehicle and systems company. The SSR was among the last vehicles that Prechter was involved with before his death. The award will benefit students at the collegiate level.

The twenty-five vehicles in the SSR Signature Series are being promoted and used in different ways, and many events they participate in will receive intense media coverage. Click-through the link above right to get the details about these special-edition Chevy trucks.
