Chevy Presents the Colorado Pickup Truck

All New Mid-Size Truck for 2004

By Dale Wickell, About.com

chevy colorado truckGM Media
The mid-size Chevy Colorado is larger than the pickups it replaces in Chevy's lineup, but doesn't try to step on the toes of the manufacturer's full-size trucks. Good looks, plenty of features and a not too shabby fuel economy rating should help make this a winner with Chevy truck fans.

Three Colorado Body Styles

  • Crew Cab, Extended Cab and Regular Cab

Two New Inline Engines

  • Vortec 3500 3.5L I-5 with 220 horsepower and 225 lb.-ft. of torque
  • Vortec 2800 2.8L I-4 with 175 horsepower and 185 lb.-ft. of torque

A Few of the Perks

  • Locking rear differential on both 2WD and 4WD models

  • Available traction-control on rear-wheel-drive models

  • OnStar GPS satellite network and wireless technology services include automatic notification of air-bag deployment, stolen vehicle location, remote door unlock, emergency services dispatch, roadside assistance, remote diagnostics, and route support OnStar Personal Calling allows drivers to make and receive hands-free, voice-activated phone calls through a nationwide network.

  • A shift-on-the-fly 4WD system is activated with a dashmounted switch.

  • Two-position locking tailgate

Safety Features

  • Dual-stage front air bags are standard; on the Regular Cab model and Extended Cab without rear seats the passenger-side air bag can be disabled.

  • Roof-rail side air bags.

  • Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) child seat anchors (plus top tether anchorage for child seats in the front seat of Regular Cabs and rear seat of Extended and Crew Cabs)

  • Standard Anti-Lock Brakes with tandem power boosters, dual-piston disc front brakes with audible wear sensors, and 295-mm diameter rear drums.

  • Foldaway outside rearview mirrors

Truck Bed Accessories

  • Bed-rail and tailgate edge protectors that follow the contours of the truck, extending the full length of the bed to protect the rails and tailgate from damage.

  • A bed extender that adds hauling capabilities. It swings out over the open tailgate to provide additional length or into the truck bed to create a stable cargo area.

  • Hard or soft tonneau covers. The hard cover is lockable, and folds up to a compact position behind the cab.

  • Chrome tubular assist steps are corrosion resistant.

  • Injection-molded splash guards are contoured to the wheel opening area to help prevent chipping from gravel and other items that might fly up under the wheels.
