The new Frontier is larger and more powerful than its predecessor, and shares a number of features with the full-size Titan:
- Similar suspension
- Factory spray-in bedliner
- Utili-track bed channel tie-down system
- A fully boxed, all-steel frame based on the Titan platform.
The 2005 Frontier is offered in both the King Cab and Crew Cab body styles and both models are available in 4X2 and 4X4 configurations. First release of the new Frontier will be in December, 2004.
Nissan's goal was to offer more power, more size, more off-road capabilities, more towing and cargo capacity, more comfort, and more overall utility.
- The new Frontier's wheelbase is 9.8 inches longer than the current model's.
- The overall length is 205.5 inches, slightly longer than current models. Width and height measurements have been increased.
- Suspension layout and design is shared with Titan, including an all-steel double-wishbone front suspension and rigid leaf rear suspension with overslung leaf springs and a long suspension stroke for better off-road ride.
- Power-assisted rack and pinion steering and 4-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system are standard.
- A new 4.0-liter DOHC, 24-valve V6 engine, rated at 265 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque (best in class hp and torque).
- A 2.5 liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine will be available on the base model King Cab.
- Choose a 5-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. 4X4 models include a shift on the fly 4-wheel drive system and an optional, advanced off-road traction system that features performance gas shocks and alloy wheels.
Utili-Track System
- Five special "C" cross section rails are mounted in the bed. Removable utility cleats slide into the channels to provide a range of attaching points for securing cargo. Many accessories are planned for use with the channel system, including bed dividers, sliding cargo trays, modular storage units, and bike racks.
Access
The King Cab and Crew Cab both feature large rear doors for easy access to the rear seating and cargo area. The Frontier King Cab has flip-up rear seats.
