General Motors will recall about 55,000 trucks and SUVs that might be at risk of shifting out of Park when the ignition key has either been removed or is in the off position, allowing the vehicle to roll. Technicians will inspect two potential problem areas... the park lock cable, which may be fractured, and the steering column lock module.
All of the affected vehicles are from the 2013 model year, and built from November 7, 2012, through December 18, 2012. Included are:
- Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT
- Five Chevrolet models -- Avalanche, Express, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe
- Four GMC Models -- Savana, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL
The recall will begin January 17, 2013. You'll receive a letter from GM if your truck or SUV is affected, with instructions to make an appointment for a no-charge inspection and repair.
