The 2013 Ram 1500 pickup was chosen Truck of the Year at Detroit's North American International Auto Show, called NAIAS for short. It's the first time the award has been given to a pickup truck (vs. an SUV) since 2009, when Ford's F-150 took top honors. Earlier, the new Ram was given a similar award by Motor Trend magazine.
The 2013 Ram 1500 is available now, and GM will introduce new Silverado and Sierra trucks for 2014. Ford will possibly give us a glimpse of its 2015 F-Series truck by revealing a concept at NAIAS tomorrow, and has hinted that future models will shed some weight, possibly by replacing heavier sheet metal with aluminum.
Trucks appear to be making a comeback after several years of less-than-robust activity -- all automakers except Nissan experienced a nice bump in pickup sales during 2012.
