Shop for a trailer hitch and you'll find more than one type of system. My truck is outfitted with a receiver type hitch, a popular type of system with one component that's permanently attached to the pickup and a draw bar that slides into it when I'm ready to tow, but can be removed when I don't want to leave it sticking out behind the vehicle. Our trailer hitch component gallery offers a good preview of the parts associated with a receiver hitch.

Thanks for the post, and I don’t know how common this it. But the other day while I was driving I glanced over to the car next to me and I saw that there was a trailer hitch sticking out below the back bumper. And I didn’t know that cars had the power to pull something behind them.
