Cerberus in Talks with Daimler
Friday September 26, 2008
Cerberus, the company that owns about 80 percent of Chrysler, is in negotiations with Daimler about buying out the automaker's minority interest. No one's talking about motivation yet, but there's plenty of speculation. Owning all of Chrysler would make it easier to sell (or possibly hook up with another manufacturer). Or perhaps the handover was part of the original contract's timeline. Maybe it's Daimler who wants to bow-out (it lost over $500 million on its share of Chrysler in the first quarter of 2008). Regardless, it sounds like the supply agreements between the two companies will still be intact if a total buyout occurs, so this specific change in ownership won't affect what you see at the dealership.Photo © Chrysler LLC
