Road Test: 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4x4
Sunday August 10, 2008
New truck sales are still in the basement, and overall, cars aren't doing a whole lot better. The slowdown and resulting batch of truck plant closings coincide with major redesigns of 2009 Ford F-150s and Dodge Rams, and the new hybrid Silverado and Sierra trucks from GM. Is there still a market for trucks like the Mega Cab, Dodge's super-sized crew cab pickup? Casual truck owners have bowed out of the truck market for now, but plenty of people still need a big truck and always will. The Mega Cab could do the trick for that crowd, and the good news is that it provides some heavy-duty features in a half-ton truck. Jason Fogelson drove a HEMI powered top-of-the-line Laramie version for us, but if you're willing to give up some luxury options you can save about $5,000 by opting for the SLT trim level.
