Datsun's Share of Pickup Truck Heritage
Saturday July 19, 2008
Nissan took a chance in 1959 when it introduced a 37-horsepower compact truck to the V8, gas-guzzling US market. It took awhile, but those little trucks grew on us. And even though we called them Datsuns, they were Nissans to the rest of the world. I worked at a Datsun dealership in the 1970's, and every now and then we found a wayward Nissan logo in the trunk or back seat of a car. The name that was unfamiliar to us at the time has become one we all recognize.Photo © Nissan

Same here I purchased a 1960 Datsun truck # 112 ,, where can I find or do you have history on this truck for that year 1960 , I was told only 300 were made , be nice to confirm that info with facts. Thanks for the pictures , 63
It’s hard to find information about these and Nissan doesn’t go into much detail about the history or numbers. You’ve probably seen this page of Datsun truck photos. Some of the pics have email addresses alongside the information. Maybe those owners could help.
I’d like to build some vintage truck galleries. Here’s the form if you’d like to submit a photo of your truck.
And I’m trying to jump-start the Trucks Forum. You could post your request there and as we grow I hope we’ll attract some vintage truck buffs.
The old Datsun trucks are great little vehicles. They were very dependable back in the day. Parts were cheap too! I’ve owned a ‘72 240Z and the car was a blast, never left me stranded and looked great. That’s after it was already 24 years old!
Did you realize that Nissan picked the Datsun name to protect Nissan’s brand imaging and market-place recognition? Datsun was picked in case it failed here. When Datsun proved successful, Nissan returned!

but most everything else is still with it.I have some great stories from the years I drove
this truck.some day I would like to see it restored but parts would be hard to find.I dont hve any photos of it to show you but it looks just like the one shown here it is even red, it was cream color when I bought it. Tom

Hi, Mr CArlos, I noticed you have #112. I happen to own #0113. I purchased from a neighbor who brought it from CA around 1982.
