Nissan and Chrysler Set to Swap

chrysler builds nissan truckWe've heard rumblings for awhile about Nissan and Chrysler's plans to swap manufacturing duties, but now it's official. Yesterday the two automakers announced that Chrysler will build a full-size truck for Nissan. In exchange, Nissan will manufacture a new, fuel-efficient small car for Chrysler. The truck will be assembled at Chrysler's Saltillo plant in Mexico, but it won't be available until 2011. The car will be built in Japan and we'll see it in North America a year earlier. According to press releases, designs will originate from the automaker that will ultimately receive each vehicle, but let's hope there's some cross-pollination between the two -- it could help breathe new life into Nissan trucks, which have been fairly stagnant in recent years.

Oh great! I traded in my Ram for a Titan because I had my Ram in the shop 18 times in 2 years(and no I could not lemon law it as each case was some different issue).

My Titan has been flawless. 65,000 miles of which 40 to 50k were miles where I was towing, hauling or both.
I can honestly say the V8 in my Titan would run rings around my old Ram Hemi and gets better gas mileage.

And to add insult to injury we are loosing more American jobs from the Nissan plant in Mississippi to Mexico.

Maybe Dodge should design both trucks and Nissan can build both…
