Live from the NAIAS in Detroit, Michigan

Saturday January 8, 2005
I've never been to Detroit, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from the weather--especially in January. I left a 60-ish degree North Carolina at 9 a.m. Saturday and it wasn't too long before all I could see below us were nonstop white clouds--a preview of the several inches of snow I found on the ground when the plane touched down in Detroit.

The North American International Auto Show is one of the most important annual shows for new vehicle introductions. So wouldn’t you know that the laptop would take this weekend to go haywire. That won't stop my live reports, because my wife, who's the About Home Buying Guide, will be working with me from home to get the info online.

I’m studying the schedule so that I know where I should be and when, but I have a feeling it's one of those events where I'll be running from one spot to another just to keep up. Here a few of the things I'll be around for:

  • North American Car of the Year and Truck of the Year announcements
  • The intro for Honda's new truck, the Ridgeline
  • Ford's introduction of the new Harley-Davidson F-150 and the Explorer Sport Trac concept
  • Since I work with Toyotas every day, I'll take some time to check out the new Avalon
  • Land Rover’s Range Rover Sport should be a good one

That's just a small sample of what's on tap for 2005. I'll use this index page as my "NAIAS Central," so bookmark it and check back often if you're interested in what's taking place at the show.
